What happens

  1. You talk with the artist about the shape and color you want.
  2. Pigment is placed into the skin.
  3. Some procedures include a touch-up visit 2 to 4 weeks later.

Before you book

  • Ask whether a touch-up visit is included and when it should happen. For under-eye work, one 2026 report said the retouch comes 2 to 4 weeks later.
  • Check that the touch-up date fits your trip.
  • Ask what pigment is used and how the artist handles hygiene.
  • Ask what happens if you do not like the result.

Watch out for

  • Korean courts treated tattooing by non-doctors as medical practice from 1992. In May 2026 the Supreme Court ruled that ordinary cosmetic tattooing by non-doctors is not unlicensed medical practice, and in June 2026 it upheld an acquittal in an eyebrow case.
  • A tattooist licensing law that covers semi-permanent makeup takes effect in October 2027. It does not allow tattoo removal by non-medical staff.
  • Removal is hard. Skin-toned or white pigments often do not respond to laser treatment.

Next step: choosing a shop yourself

  1. Pick two or three shops near where you are staying. The neighborhoods above are where most listings are.
  2. Send each shop the same questions: the total price with tax, whether it is per person, whether English is available, and the deposit and cancellation rule.
  3. Compare the written answers. Booking-site banners are often promotions and change without notice.
  4. For lasers, injections or anything a doctor does, read the treatment page first and ask the clinic for its registration to treat foreign patients.
